Frequently asked questions

No. Redactor processes everything entirely on your device. Your images are never uploaded to any server, and the app requires no internet connection to function.

Redactor collects zero data — no analytics, no crash reporting, no account required.

No. Redactions are permanently baked into the image pixels at export time. There are no hidden layers, editable overlays, or recoverable data in the exported file.

We recommend using Black Bar or Pixelate for the most sensitive content, as these offer stronger protection than Blur.

Tap and drag anywhere inside a box to move it. Drag the white circle handles at the corners to resize it.

To delete a box, tap it with a short tap (no drag) and confirm in the dialog that appears.

Pinch with two fingers to zoom in. Once zoomed, use two fingers to pan around the image. Draw your redaction box with one finger as normal.

Tap the ⊕ Reset Zoom button in the top toolbar to return to the full view.

Before exporting, Redactor checks whether any of your blur regions are very small. If they are, a warning appears suggesting you increase the area or switch to Pixelate or Black Bar for stronger coverage.

This is optional advice — you can dismiss it and export anyway.

For maximum security:

  • Black Bar — completely opaque, no information visible at any zoom level. Best for account numbers, passwords, and personal details.
  • Pixelate — strong visual disruption with no recoverable detail. Good for names, emails, and phone numbers.
  • Blur — softer look, suitable for less critical content like background details or rough locations.

Cropping clears the undo history because the image itself is replaced. To recover the original, close the editor without saving and re-import the screenshot from your gallery.

Yes. On the export screen, tap the PNG / JPG toggle before saving to switch formats. JPG produces smaller file sizes; PNG is lossless and preserves exact pixel quality.

Go to Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos, find Redactor in the list, and set it to All Photos or Selected Photos.

If you denied access when first asked, the app cannot prompt again — you must grant it manually from Settings.

The Terms of Service screen appears only on first launch and is not shown again after you accept. If you delete and reinstall the app, it will appear once more.
