Shelf – Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

Shelf ("the App") is developed and operated by Lindsay Newton-Smith. If you have any questions about this Privacy Policy, you can contact us at lindsay@achievoedu.com.au.

2. Data We Collect and Why

We do not collect your name, email address, location, contacts, or any other personal information.

3. Device Permissions

Camera Optional

Used to photograph box covers when you add a game manually. Camera frames are processed entirely on your device and are never transmitted to any server. You can use all other app features without granting camera access.

Photo Library Optional

Used only when you explicitly choose to select a photo from your library as a game's cover image. We only read the specific photo you select; we do not browse or access other photos.

Notifications Optional

Used to send local reminders for game nights you schedule within the app. Notifications are generated and delivered entirely by your device — no data is sent to our servers. You can disable notifications at any time in your device Settings.

4. BoardGameGeek Account (Optional)

To search the BoardGameGeek game database, you may connect a BGG account via Settings. If you do:

• Your BGG username is stored on-device only.
• Your BGG password is transmitted directly to BoardGameGeek over HTTPS and is never stored by Shelf.
• Search queries (game titles) are sent to BoardGameGeek to retrieve results.

BGG account connection is optional. You can still add games manually without it. BGG's own Privacy Policy governs their handling of your credentials and search queries.

5. BoardGameGeek API

When you search for a game by title, the App sends your search query to BoardGameGeek to retrieve game information. No personally identifiable information beyond your search terms is included in these requests.

6. In-App Purchases

The App may offer optional in-app purchases processed through Apple's App Store. All payment information is handled exclusively by Apple. We receive only a confirmation of whether a purchase was made — we never see your payment details, billing address, or card information. Apple's Privacy Policy governs their handling of purchase data.

7. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, rent, or share your data with third parties. We have no advertising partners and use no third-party analytics SDKs. Your game library and preferences never leave your device.

The only external communications the App makes are the BGG authentication and search requests described in Sections 4 and 5.

8. Data Retention and Deletion

All app data is stored locally on your device. You can delete all data at any time by:

• Deleting individual games within the app
• Uninstalling the app, which removes all locally stored data

Because we do not receive or store your data on our servers, there is nothing for us to delete on our end.

9. Children's Privacy

Shelf is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. The App does not collect personal information from any user regardless of age.

10. Security

Because your data is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to our servers, its security is governed by your device's own security features (passcode, Face ID, etc.). We encourage you to keep your device software up to date.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
